Prepare for some spectacular high-flying action off Torquay's Point Danger from 12-16 December during the first Australian staging of a GKA Kite-Surf World Tour event.
Council has worked together with Great Ocean Road Coast Committee to help secure the final round of the international tour. Men's and women's world kite-surf champions will be crowned on the Surf Coast.
Kite-surfing combines elements of surfing, snowboarding, sailing, skateboarding and windsurfing, involving radical wave riding and freestyle manoeuvres.
Countries hosting other rounds of the world tour include Morocco, Portugal, Mauritius and Brazil.
Melbourne international competitor James ‘Storm’ Carew joined tour representatives, Surf Coast Shire Council Mayor David Bell, GORCC CEO Vanessa Schernickau and Surf Coast Secondary College students Bella Wilson, Jye Reid, Mia Huppatz and Emily McGettigan for today’s tour event launch.
James said global competitors were busting to compete in Australia and test Point Danger's waves and wind!
