Are you passionate about eating or producing food in the Surf Coast? Now is your opportunity to have input into a Local Food Program to support a sustainable local food system into the future.

From community gardens and innovative food businesses, to regenerative farming and good retail – our community has shown that local and sustainable food is important in Surf Coast Shire.
A discussion paper and survey is available on https://www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/About-us/Have-Your-Say/Local-Food-Program and is open for comment until 18 March, 2018.
The discussion paper recognises that Surf Coast Shire has a well-established food system and identifies a series of different elements to the system - production, processing, distribution, access, consumption and waste management.
In seeking community input Council very much recognises there are lots of great ideas and activities already underway – there are innovative, passionate people involved in local food at many levels.
Through the Local Food Program we have a golden opportunity to gather ideas and evidence on how, as a community, we can build on the inherent potential to grow a sustainable food system in Surf Coast Shire.
Responses to the survey closes Sunday 18 March, 2018. Following this, a three year plan will outline actions both Council and the community can take to put ourselves in a healthy position for the future – through a sustainable local food system that is supported and celebrated.
