Following the power outage in Lorne on the Gran Fondo weekend (15-16 Sept) the Surf Coast Shire Council and Lorne Business & Tourism engaged with Powercor to investigate an increase in the frequency and duration of power outages.

Powercor were responsive and outlined the number and type of outages over the last 12 months and what activities Powercor was undertaking to address the increase in outage activity.
Lorne has experienced six power outages in the past 12 months. Four were vegetation related, one equipment failure and one with no cause identified. It was acknowledged that this is not typical of historical power supply reliability for customers in Lorne.
Three of the four vegetation related outages were caused by bark falling on the powerlines. The main supply to Lorne comes via the heavily treed Otway Ranges.
Powercor is implementing 'bark mitigation works' this year on the feeder that supplies Lorne to help address bark related outages. The project is planned for completion prior to Christmas.
