Did you know: there are now 294 solar panels on the roof of the Council Offices producing 85KW of power?
On a typical day this equates to about 65% of the building’s energy consumption.
We are supporting the community to use renewable energy alternatives and doing our own bit by installing solar panels on several Council buildings.
We have also installed solar panels at other sites: Torquay Library (52 panels, 10kW), Lorne Visitor Information Centre (35 panels, 35 kW), Winchelsea’s Eastern Reserve Community Centre (35 panels, 10 kW) and Jan Juc Pre School, Bob Pettitt Reserve (18 panels, 5kW).
The Council Plan reaffirms Council’s commitment to the environment. "Our Towards Environmental Leadership" program has set the ambitious target of 25% of energy from renewable sources by 2020.
Energy consultants Positive Charge are available to give independent advice on going solar.
