Torquay came a-'Live' for the Rip Curl Pro

A record 50 businesses throughout Surf Coast Shire were activated as Live Sites during the Rip Curl Pro to live stream the surfing action and connect businesses to the event.

Live sites were provided themed branding to create a visual link to the action at Bells Beach and was complimented by on-line and newspaper adverts promoting participating businesses. Feedback has been positive with businesses indicating they were very busy with customers staying longer to watch the live action and consequently spending more.

Destination Torquay Video almost doubles website visitation

Complementing the live sites was a new promotional advert for Torquay. Created by the Surf Coast Shire, the 15 second advert was designed to align with the branding created by GORRT and link viewers to the Torquay destination website, www.iamtorquay.com.

With a global audience of over 4 million people the Rip Curl Pro presents a great opportunity to promote Torquay and the Surf Coast to the world. The initial analysis of the success of the advert is very positive with the Torquay website receiving an 83% increase in unique views over the Easter week, and over 70% of the views being directed from the World Surf League event website where the ads were being screened.
